If the machine says TRAY MISSING it's the contacts at the back so clean as other people have stated, you can also use a cardboard nail file to clean the contacts at the back if there really skanky! If the machine keeps saying EMPTY GROUNDS even though you have, pull out the tray, look just inside the aparture where the tray goes top right at the front there is a small slot where if you look closely you can see a small white micro switch. This will be probably gunged up with coffee and the switch will be stuck up, get a can of WD40 and squirt a small amount up into the switch then poke the switch with a small screwdriver up and down until it moves smoothly. Then replace all the bits, sit down, look smug and have a coffee cos you've fixed it!!:0) Answered on Apr 12, 2018.
- Jura coffee machine instructions. The Jura Impressa user manual details how to use, how to clean and how to descale your espresso machine.

Jura does not allow access to internal parts for cleaning. Brew group is the dirtiest part as it deals with complicated movements to make coffee.
Error 8 means the brew group is not returning to start position after it completes entire cycle to make coffee. Jura recommends to remove drip tray. Using a thin cloth, insert the hand all the way under the machine. You will feel access to the bottom of the brew group. Wipe clean the bottom of brew group as best as you can. There will be lot of coffee powder (wet & dry) that is partially responsible to prevent brew group return to start position.
A better method is to open the machine using special key. Clean & lubricate the brew group. Every two months. This will prevent Fungus and Bacteria growth.
Instruction videos are posted on You tube channel 'Parts Guru USA' Use the link below to order the special key. Btw, I’m available to help over the phone in case u need at Answered on Oct 23, 2016. The passage of water is not passing through coffee grounds.
The coffee powder is dumped dry & water is bypassing the brew group and draining into the tray. Causes: 1- Machine was not descaled. Or descaled with automatic method only, as suggested by Jura. 2- There is accumulation of Calcium in the hydraulic system, generating back pressure. This reduces the pump pressure and water cannot force its way through coffee grounds.
3- Stop using filter cartridges. Turn the reminders off. Solution: Descale machine manually every three months. Btw, I’m available to help over the phone in case u need at Answered on Oct 23, 2016. The solution was referenced in one of the earlier postings but I wanted to clarify in case people are misunderstanding. The two metal contacts at the back of the machine insert into the wall of the machine and tell the coffee maker that the tray is inserted. Sometimes the big, flat, readily visible portion of these contacts get dirty and I think people are focusing on this portion of the contacts.
However, the metal contacts also bend down into the tray where they can detect water (basically if there is enough water or material to conduct between the two contacts then the machine tells you to empty the try). This is the portion where you need to focus on cleaning, down in the tray, between the narrow plastic valley at the back of the tray. It will require Q-tips or something to really push down into the tray to clean away from the contacts. I did not have water in the tray but had enough moist old coffee grounds that it was causing the issue. I cleaned this area with water, a toothbrush and Q-tips and ensured it was very clean and dry. I have not seen the issue again in months (my coffee maker is three years old, gets used daily and we keep it relatively clean, but this is the first time we've gotten this error).
Answered on Jul 28, 2016. Honestly, I've never even saw a Jura Capresso Impressa S9 Coffee Maker so excuse me that I won't provide you a specific answer, but maybe I can help you with some generic guidelines.

About German language message, copy it to google search, between quotes and add word translate; see if you get some intelligible return. Other trick to get a tranaslation is to send text to yoursel with gmail and select 'translate' Depending on content of that mysterious German message, probably you should look for some repair service. Maybe on your original warranty you have a listin of 'authorized repair service' or the shop where you bought it can tell you where to take it. Answered on Aug 29, 2015.

Remove the tray at the front of the machine. Look inside and you will see a rubber flap which separates the right and left side of the machine. Gently lift this to the right and look inside to the left (a small mirror like from a womans compact and a flashlight will help you see in there.) You will find a small circular screen (about the size of a half dollar.) You need to wipe ALL the coffee grinds off of this screen. That should fix the problem. If you use dark beans, you are probably grinding them to fine and some of the oily residue is sticking to this screen. Try grinding the dark beans more coarsely.
Only change the grinder WHEN IT IS GRINDING by adjusting the litlle knob in the box where you place the beans. If the problem started just after changing the filter you may have air in the water line and it needs to be flushed. Try running the tea portion hot water until it clears. These suggestions were given to me by Capresso and actually worked for my machine. Gary Answered on Jul 23, 2015. To replace this part you will have to open the jura machine. I found this information out because I had the dreaded error 8 reading on my jura machine which stopped it from making coffee.
To disassemble the jura coffee machine you'll need some special tools that I will talk about as I describe how to get to the sensor, make sure you get those tools or something similar. The problem that you are having is the boiler is not heating properly (heating the water properly), so the taste of espresso will not be good. You need a high heating temperature to get good tasting espresso. This generally happens because the thermo sensor went bad and the electronic board is not sensing the proper heat because the thermo sensor went out. Remove the drip tray 2. Remove the water tank 3.
Remove the coffee cover and bean hopper cover (aroma cover) 4. Remove the cover for the pre-ground coffee shut 5. Now you will need to remove the cup warning plate that is stainless steel, it is fastened with 2 security screws. You'll need a Newelectronx t15 torx security screwdriver to take them out.
Now remove the top plate, there will be 5 screws fastening it down. Again use the Newelectronx t15 torx screwdriver to take them out. Pull it up to release. On the rear end of the machine, you'll need to remove some weird oval head screws. The only place I could find the tool for this oval head screw was in the Newelectronx Coffee Tool Kit Set. Get the oval tool, which is different from the Newelectronx t15 torx bit and remove the next few screws.
There are 2 screws - oval head, on the lower backside. Take off the rear back panel. On the left you'll find the mechanical parts. On the boiler, which is the big metal part that is formed like an upside down tear drop.

The thermo sensor is attached to the boiler with a screw - again use the Newelectronx security screwdriver to remove the security screw. The thermo sensor connects to the electronic board. Detach the wire from the electronic board. Now the thermo sensor is off.
Replace the thermo sensor with a new jura thermo sensor that has the same wire colors. If the wire color is wrong the contact thermo sensor might not perform as it should. Now put the machine back together. Good luck Answered on Apr 10, 2015.
