Last Saturday, my wife, son, daughter-in-law, and I went and played a round of golf. On the way to the course, I spotted a (I think) Hesston 565 round baler with a for sale sign on it. I glanced at it on the way by, and it looked pretty good at 25 MPH. I am going to go back and take a closer look at it today. I figured, you guys have more experience with round balers than me. (I have none).
Please tell me what you think about these balers. Thanks Gene Also, what should I be looking at closely for wear and/or damage.
Any other advice is very welcome. Last Saturday, my wife, son, daughter-in-law, and I went and played a round of golf. We run an 8465a Case IH which should be the very same baler as a 565 other than the a means fully automatic. The came off the same assembly line in hesston ks we really like ours a would have gotten a hesston just got a better deal on this at the time they are a very good baler.
I would buy a deere. Yeah I know that its the wrong color but we have had 2 in the past 7 years and love em. First one was a JD 446.
I didnt run that one but it was a good baler that made a TIGHT bale. We have a 582 Silage Special now that will take hay faster then you can put it in. In a normal windrow in 50% moisture alfalfa I can go 11 mph. Now granted you dont need that big of a baler, but you could find yourself a smaller one thats about 6-8 years old and have a party. If you dont mind me asking, how much they asking for the hesston?
Tony, They want $6,000 for it. I'm not buying it either. While I was on tour, I drove by a IH cab tractor that I have seen setting in the same place for a couple years. Decided to stop and ask about it. Turns out, it's a 1456. Been setting 4 years.
Rough, rough condition. Tires are up and look OK. Rain cap has rotted off the top of the chrome stack. Hood missing.
Tryed to turn engine with fan. Couldn't budge it. Stuck engine? Owner has turned down $1,800 and $2,000 from 2 different scrappers, because he doesn't want to see the tractor scrapped. But he told me, he had to have $2,500 knowing I wanted it to repair. Guess he knows what his equipment is worth to him. What should it be worth?

What should it be worth? Gene Hey Gene Are you looking for a project? If he put fresh batteries in it and it fired up and everything works ok $2,500 is reasonable but who knows at this point. You could put 2 or 3 thousand in it a year for the next few years depending on what it needs and have a good tractor to use. We had a Case-IH 8460 for years, same as Hesston 565, lots of drive clutch problems, replace them just about every year. I didn't like the monitor, hard to make a nice uniform, even bale as compared to a Deere 535 or 566.
I was very happy to see it go down the road. If you have to replace the circuit board or brain box on the side of the baler its gets real pricey.I'd run like. from one if it were me. 8460 is NOT the same as a 565.
It would be the same as a 560. The '65's have heavier clutches, and a different front roller and drive setup than a '60. Our 8465 would bale circles around a 535, And I'd compare it favorably to a 566. It would also bale silage, which will make an ass out of a 535. $6000 doesn't sound too bad if you know how many bales it's had through it. We traded our 8465 three years ago for $6,000. The dealer got close to $8,000 out of it.
Hesston 555t Round Baler
It had right at 10,000 bales on it. It was straight and clean and had year old belts on it at the time.
